BIPP Distinctions - The Licentiateship

 

The most general routes to a licentiateship are:

●   Wedding - Ten prints from a single wedding, plus an additional ten as evidence of a variety of commissioned work, including groups, bridal portraits etc. Pages from wedding albums are not accepted.

●   Portrait - Five prints are required from each of two portrait sessions, plus ten additional prints as evidence of a variety of commissioned portraits. It is important to present a range of work reflecting studio or location applications, or a combination of both.

●   Social - Five prints from one wedding plus an additional five prints from other weddings. Five prints from one portrait session plus an additional five prints from other portrait sessions.

●   Commercial - Twenty photographs are required from a variety of commissioned work. The applicant is encouraged to include supporting evidence in the working profile such as the client's brief and the description of the intended use of the images.

●   General practice - Five prints are required from each of three distinct categories, for example weddings, portraits and commercial plus an additional five prints from any of the categories.

●   Fashion, illustrative, pictorial, press and PR - Twenty images are required showing a variety of commissioned work or current images from a stock picture library.

●   Applied photography - For more specialised applications of photography such as scientific, the submission can be in the form of prints, transparencies or CD ROM. However, if so advised, alternative evidence can be provided in the form of an illustrated report, incorporated into the working profile.

Other routes to a licentiateship are:

●   by examination;

●   the government and public service route;

●   medical photography; and

●   the Ministry of Defence route.
