Image 1 - This picture was taken in Japan in the spring when the cherry blossom is at its peak. The red bridge is located in the garden of Byodoin Temple in Uji. I moved around near the tree until I found a suitable gap in the branches through which both the bridge and the girl could be seen relatively clearly. A very small aperture (f/16) was used to maximize the depth of field, and the focus was set to the hyperfocal distance so that everything from infinity to a few metres was rendered acceptably sharp. This meant using a relatively long exposure time. Fortunately there was no wind to disturb the cherry blossom during the exposure period.
