E-books do need a front cover despite their electronic format. It is used by sellers to advertise and promote the book, and may help to improve visibility through web image search results. The cover can be created by the author using Photoshop or equivalent image-manipulation software, or contracted out to a professional source. The cover design image should be of a reasonably high quality and have a resolution of 300 dpi. It may also be worth creating a rear cover and spine in case the book is printed at some stage.
