Picture Tales: Gardens - Image 01
This picture was taken in Japan in the spring when the cherry blossom is at its peak. The red bridge is located in the garden of Byodoin Temple in Uji. I moved around near the tree until I found a suitable gap in the branches through which both the bridge and the girl could be seen relatively clearly. A very small aperture (f/16) was used to maximise the depth of field, and the focus was set to the hyperfocal distance so that everything from infinity to a few metres was rendered acceptably sharp. This meant using a relatively long exposure time. Fortunately there was no wind to disturb the cherry blossom during the exposure period.
